In August, Julia Wiebe, Ph.D., Managing Director at red otc development- a Finzelberg company, as well as Founding Board Member Women in Nutraceuticals (WIN), kicked off the #MotherAndChildChallenge on LinkedIn. Dr. Wiebe shared, “I don’t post pictures of my children on social media. Today, I’m making an exception to remind us how lucky we are, and that we have to help 57 less fortunate mothers & children: 57 teen girls, survivors of trauma who have been left pregnant to navigate life on their own, currently living at Wings of Hope Rescue Home in Nairobi, Kenya. Unless we act quickly, they will lose their home when the lease expires on September 1. I’m donating to support the project #hopeNeedsAHome brought to life by Cypress Minerals, The 6AM Agency and Cepham Inc to save their home. And I’m starting the #MotherAndChildChallenge to spread the word and inspire action.” The rules of the #MotherAndChildChallenge challenge: Donate to the initiative (https://athousandplus.org); post a photo of yourself with your mother or your child; tag 4 people and challenge them to keep it going.
Industry members answered the call, posting photos with their kids or their own mothers. To learn more about Hope Needs a Home, read Cypress Minerals & Cepham Launch Humanitarian Campaign and watch The Natural View: Industry Leaders Race to Help Wings of Hope Rescue Center & Ask for Your Help.
Ann Armbrecht, Sustainable Herbs Initiative Director, was on LinkedIn amplifying a powerful message. She posted the words of Nate Brennan, Manager of Foster Farm Botanicals, who, during the Learning Journey in Nicaragua, said: “There is so much that must be silenced to do business. We can’t pretend not to hear it anymore. We need to keep asking, ‘Why are we doing things this way? Is it the right way or just because it is set up that way? Does it bring love? Or does it bring pain?’”
Reflecting on the words, Armbrecht added, “So grateful for the community of Sustainable Herbs Initiative members who are willing to ask the hard questions and show up with love, for each other and for the work we are trying to do together. Read more about our recent gathering in Oregon... as we try to learn about, and bring, living systems thinking to international trade and bring the ideas we discuss into concrete actions in our lives, our companies, and our work together.” Hear more from Armbrecht at the Naturally Informed educational event Supply Chain, Delivery Systems and Technology: Mastering the Market. Registration for the event, taking place September 24-25, is free and open now at https:// naturallyinformed.net/2025-supply-chain-delivery-systems-and-technology-2025/.
The Natural Products Association (NPA) shared news that FDA extended its deadline to respond to NPA’s Citizen Petition on NMN to September 30, 2025. NPA noted: “During this continued stay, no enforcement action can be taken. NPA remains committed to protecting industry interests and advancing access to NMN. Read the full status report here: https://lnkd.in/gYjBgu63.”
NPA’s Daniel Fabricant, Ph.D., amplified the message on LinkedIn, posting: “To those companies marketing NMN and supporting Natural Products Association’s efforts - a continued show of gratitude - the right thing about the right thing is - it’s always the right thing, timeless. You took a stand and NMN is still on the shelves. Still is.”
Sarah Burden of People Science asked colleagues on LinkedIn: What's your most re-read book, or re-watched movie? To kick off the conversation, Burden shared her Reading Round-Up for the month, which included two reads that were geographically inspired reading for NBJ Summit, which took place in California in July, along with a classic “comfort re-read.” Check out her selections, and chime in with your own favorites!
