Winter Fancy Food Show Coverage

For every healthy food introduced at the 2015 Winter Fancy Food Show, January 11-13 in San Francisco, there was a decadent delight to counter it.

I’m going to glaze over the bacon-wrapped popcorn and foie gras-flavored ice cream and share my list of the best new foods to try in 2015.

  • Sprouted foods look like they may start replacing life-giving protein bars.

  • Soy sauce is getting crazy complex and you want to get on the inside track, like wine enthusiasts.

  • Superfruits do more than nourish. Some even cleanse. Pitaya Plus is the body cleansing superfruit.

  • Sauces make it a cinch to cook complex cuisine like Sharwood's Pan Asian flavors and Gaucho Ranch, which makes chimichurri and dulce de leche milk caramel sauces.

  • Honey continues to get more complex. I discovered Kidd Brothers Honey’s delicious flavors.

  • There are new ways to get your vitamins, especially vitamin A. Sioma Red Palm Oil is a great for cooking with and getting more antioxidants at the same time.

  • Tuna got an upgrade with Tonnino’s exclusive jarred and flavored Yellow-fin.

  • Before hummus, there were beans and Better Beans is the new way to get your bean fix.   These are conveniently packaged and flavored and ready to go without the can.

  • The spice category continues to heat up with innovative flavors from Spiceologist and Spice Hunter.

  • Dairy-free is the next gluten-free and companies like DF Mavens are making it easy because their ice cream is gourmet-grade delicious.

  • Super seeds like SuperSeedz gourmet pumpkin seeds are replacing nuts for trendy people in the know and even showing up on ingredient lists.

  • Animal rights is not just for vegetarians. David Rio Chai is involved in funding wellness initiatives.

  • Overall, we’re seeing more nutrients, less cans, innovative flavors and international flair.

Keep moving in the right direction food world! WF
