Paris, France— AIDP, Inc. and Algaia, S.A. have announced their entrance into a distribution partnership to market Algaia’s alginates, naturally-occurring polysaccharides produced from brown algae,  as well as other specialty marine-based solutions to customers in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The arrangement was finalized at Vitafoods in Geneva, Switzerland and will begin on June 1, 2017.

“We are delighted that AIDP will represent Algaia in the region and that we can add Algaia’s portfolio to our offering of products focused on meeting consumer demand for natural, wellness and health products,” stated Mark Thurston, President of AIDP Inc. in a press release. “Our commitment is to source and supply high-quality ingredients backed by research, and provide proprietary solutions that address formulation challenges in mainstream food, functional food and beverages.”

Following its acquisition of Cargill’s alginate business and manufacturing plant in April 2016, which was concluded in January 2017, Algaia’s product offerings were boosted significantly. Following the acquisition in April, the firm also opened a new R&D center in Saint-Lô in October of 2016 and in the first quarter 2017 invested €3 million in its manufacturing facility in Lannilis, France.

“This distribution partnership is a major step forward for Algaia, supporting our growth ambitions for USA, Canada and Mexico,” says Fabrice Bohin, CEO of Algaia in a press release. “We are anticipating double digit growth. Together with AIDP, we will be able to provide expanded service to our customers requiring alginates, while developing new opportunities for our algae-based ingredients line.”
