Los Angeles, CA— Ashwagandha is known for stress support, but can it help with stress-induced eating? Yes, according to new research published in theJournal of Evidence-Based Complementary & Alternative Medicine.

A group 52 overweight, but healthy individuals (ages 18–60) either took ashwagandha (300 mg,KSM-66 from IxoReal BioMed) or a placebo twice daily for two months. During this time, questionnaires were used to record stress, happiness and diet, and blood work was taken.

The researchers found the herb improved happiness and reduced stress, as measured by questionnaire responses and cortisol levels. Food cravings were reduced and individuals were less likely to turn to food to cope with stress.
