JBSL-Japan, known for its research-backed heart-health enzyme and power fibrinolytic, is gathering global executives and dignitaries for a celebration in honor of the company's 50-year milestone. The event, which will take place in Osaka, Japan, will recognize Japan Bio Science Laboratory (JBSL) for its accomplishments throughout five decades of business including the development of multiple identity methods. This includes DNA sequencing and affinity testing using a polyclonal antibody, and the I-BOX testing method that identifies NSK-SD as nattokinase. “Fifty years is quite a milestone for JBSL-Japan and the future looks bright,” shared Vincent Hackel, JBSL-USA, Chief Executive Officer.
A rich history
Created in 1974, JBSL-Japan was the first company to establish a manufacturing method of fermented soybean extract for supplements and functional foods. A pioneer within the field of nattokinase research, in 1998 JBSL became the first company in the world to isolate and market the unique enzyme. At the same time, NSK-SD, a branded and patented nattokinase was manufactured and became the company's flagship ingredient.
Today, JBSL has received novel food approval in Europe and is allowed to be used in Russia, most Southeast Asian countries, Japan, Taiwan and Korea. In the United States, JBSL-USA has self-affirmed GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status. “We’re proud to be part of JBSL in the U.S and always working to push the science forward and get approval for global health claims," stated Hackel.
Flagship ingredient
Recognized by the JHFA (Japan Health and Nutrition Food Authorization) and the JNKA (Japan Nattokinase Association) as authentic nattokinase, NSK-SD is the only EFSA-approved (European Food Safety Authority) and Health Canada-approved nattokinase. NSK-SD is non-GMO, vegetarian, and non-irradiated with the highest proven potency of any vitamin K2-free nattokinase on the market. With its own published safety, efficacy, and identity data, the white, odorless, tasteless, water-soluble, free flowing powder, ideal for different kinds of supplements. “NSK-SD, with over 55 clinical studies, carrying the tagline of The Science of Nattokinase, includes 23 human clinical trials exploring its efficacy in several areas,” said Hackel. “Additionally, we’re developing alternative delivery forms so that companies can use NSK-SD in applications other than standard pills and capsules.”
