B Corp Numi Organic Teaannounced a newCarbon Footprint Label that will be included on all of its tea boxes beginning in the first half of 2022. The company says the new label breaks down each product’s emissions into four categories–ingredients, packaging, transport and preparation–so consumers can easily understand the carbon impact of their tea purchases. "Numi’s new Carbon Footprint Label is our commitment to the planet and we believe it’s vital to share our carbon number with consumers," said Reem Hassani, Chief Brand Officer & Co-Founder of Numi, in a press release. “We hope this big step for sustainability encourages other brands to follow our lead and commit to sharing their carbon footprint. The more of us that join this movement, the more context consumers will have when considering the environmental impact of their daily habits. The Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) announced the opening of registration for the 2022 Generation GF Teen Summit, which is being held at The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) at Copia in Napa, California, June 30-July 1, 2022. GIG said its Gluten-free Teen Chef Camp, for teens aged 13-18 living gluten-free, will be "an immersive culinary adventure under the direction of CIA chefs, some of America’s top cooking instructors." The camp involves two days of hands-on learning in CIA’s professional kitchen where campers will gain specialized cooking skills for gluten-free meal preparation. Evo Hempannounces a new partnership with 40-Acre Cooperative, the only Black-led nationwide agricultural co-op for underserved farmers. According to a press release, the cooperative has 34 active members in several states and two tribal territories who receive support and training on a variety of topics, including sustainable farming to help regenerate the soil and reduce climate damage. Evo Hemp shared that 40-Acre Cooperative has spent years researching and growing hemp, and Evo Hemp will be using the co-ops organic, cannabinoid-rich Wunder x Woman strain to produce much of its CBD and hemp food products in 2022 and beyond.

Indenaannounced the further expansion of its existing GMP Pilot Plant for active pharmaceutical ingredients, the doubling of its kilo lab LK2 for OEB 5 products and the installation of a 250-liter industrial hydrogenator. Karallief Inc., a nutraceutical ingredient company that researches, develops, and distributes clinically studied herbal extract ingredient formulas, announced that its multi-herbal extract formula, KaraHeart, was studied in a double-blind, parallel, placebo-controlled, randomized human clinical trial. According to a press release, 100 patients with mild to moderately high cholesterol levels (but who were otherwise healthy) were divided equally into two groups; one was given KaraHeart and the other was given a placebo. The study, published in the International Journal of Basic & Clinical Pharmacology, concluded that the participants taking KaraHeart outperformed the placebo group, with significantly reduced levels of LDL, VLDL, TGL, TC/HDL ratios and TC, as well as increased levels of HDL in the blood.

Nuseed Nutritional US Inc., announced that it has conducted a human clinical trial confirming the safety and efficacy of Nutriterra as a novel plant-based source of seven omega-3 fatty acids. Results of the study werepublished in Frontiers in Nutrition. Kerry has officially opened its newly upgraded facility in Rome, Georgia, which it says  represents Kerry’s largest-ever capital expenditure investment and one of the biggest in Georgia’s history. Kerry shared that the 316,000 SF facility, which now employs 250 people, provides integrated taste and nutrition solutions to help customers meet growing consumer demand in the poultry, seafood and alternative protein markets across the U.S. and Canada. As part of Kerry’s sustainability strategy, Beyond the Horizon, the company has prioritized sustainability initiatives across the entire facility. Layn Natural Ingredients announced that its newest study,Assessment of Anti-inflammatory and Antioxidant Activity of SophorOx, has been published inThe Journal of Complementary and Integrative Medicine. The  results: Quercetin and flavonoid-rich natural antioxidant extract ingredient is effective in its ability to inhibit oxidative stress and support a healthy inflammation response, according to the company. The in vitro animal study, headed by Vedic Lifesciences, demonstrates that SophorOx, which is derived from Sophora japonica L,inhibits pro-inflammatory compounds and reactive molecules that cause oxidative stress. A preliminary in-vitro cell line study also supported SophorOx as a potent antioxidant, displaying prominent ability to block mediators of oxidative stress and inflammation, the company says.

Sweegen’sSignature Bestevia portfolio of nature-based sweeteners and sweetener systems is now accessible to brands in Mexico after the country’s food safety authority adopted the Codex Alimentarius (Codex) specifications for steviol glycosides produced by different technologies, the company shared. This includes Sweegen’s bioconversion method for producing clean and non-GMO stevia sweeteners, such as Rebaudiosides B, D, E, I, M, and N. Codex is the international food safety organization under the auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO).
