Certified B-Corp Good Culture announced the completion of $64 million in Series C funding led by Manna Tree, with participation from SEMCAP Food & Nutrition and celebrity investor Kristen Bell. The company said it secured funding from sources aligned with its mission to create foods that are healing for people and the planet, and that the capital will help continue to scale the business and innovate beyond its current product line to build a cultured foods platform.

Bio-K+ shared that its Extra Cognition Drinkable Probiotic has been named Product of the Year in the U.S. Probiotics Category for 2022. Product of the Year a consumer-voted award for product innovation, determined by 40,000 American shoppers through a national survey conducted by Kantar, a global leader in consumer research. The product offers a probiotic content of 80 billion CFU blended with the active ingredient Cereboost, also known as American Ginseng, scientifically studied for its effects on supporting cognitive function, performance, and working memory. The product is vegan, certified gluten-free, organic, and non-GMO.

EverGrain Ingredients announced that its entire portfolio of upcycled barley protein and fiber ingredients has received the Upcycled Food Association’s (UFA) certification. And looking ahead to the summer of 2022, the company is due to come online with a scaled facility out of St. Louis, MO, producing EverPro, a soluble plant-based protein compatible with pea protein. The company shared that it is also exploring plant-based protein and fiber ingredients that can be used in meat alternatives, breads and pastas. 

As You Sow announced that The Kraft Heinz Co. has agreed to set a goal to reduce total virgin plastic use following the filing of a shareholder proposal and engagement with As You Sow. The proposal asked Kraft Heinz to report on how it would reduce plastic packaging, including planned reduction strategies or goals, materials redesign, substitution, or reductions in use of virgin plastic. As You Sow reported that Kraft Heinz intends to set a substantial virgin plastic packaging reduction goal later this year or in the first quarter of 2023. In response, As You Sow agreed to withdraw its shareholder proposal. 

Nutrify Today shared that it will launch its first annual Nutrify C-Suite Summit June 17, 2022, in Mumbai, India. The Summit is designed to help member countries within the nutraceutical, food tech, and pharma markets more easily conduct business with other member countries that are part of the ASINDOUS (Asia-Indo-US) HIGHWAY, using enhanced and coordinated business practices and guidelines. Nutrify said the event will bring together senior executives composed of buyers (P&G, GSK, AMWAY, and others), with sellers (Omniactive, Holista, Unilab, Polisano, and more), as well as government leaders from key ASEAN countries, India, and the U.S.

Hologram Sciences unveiled new  personalized health & nutrition initiatives with the launch of the consumer brand Phenology, which offers advanced at-home diagnostics, hormone tracking, and custom insights for women before, during and after menopause. The company also has an exclusive partnership with  German-based  femtech start-up Inne, which has developed an at-home non-invasive fertility monitoring system.

Loop, the circular reuse platform developed byTerraCycle, has teamed up withKroger Co. to offer a selection of products in reusable packaging rather than in single-use plastic. Thanks to the partnership, customers at the 25 Kroger-owned Fred Meyer stores in the Portland metro area can purchase more than 20 products from leading consumer brands packaged in reusable containers. Brands in the Loop assortment include Nature’s Heart, Nature’s Path, Seventh Generation, and Kroger’s Simple Truth brand, with additional brands expected to be added to the Loop product portfolio in the coming months.
