Industry experts caution that the law will restrict consumer access to safe dietary supplements.

Kyle Turk, Director of Government Affairs, NPA, offers an update on efforts to put age restrictions on certain dietary supplements in the sports nutrition and weight loss categories. 

The law punishes truthful, otherwise lawful communications by imposing age restrictions based on representations communicated about a product, rather than the actual safety of the product itself, CRN stressed.

The Natural Products Association (NPA) has filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York on December 4, 2023, asserting that the law is unconstitutional. 

The push to restrict access to supplements has succeeded in New York state, though NPA said it will seek to overturn the newly signed law in court.
