Natural products industry responds to congressional Request for Information regarding FDA regulation of cannabidiol (CBD).

A bill to establish a framework for the FDA to regulate hemp-derived CBD as a dietary supplement or food and beverage additive has been reintroduced, and Congress is formally scrutinizing FDA's inaction on hemp products such as CBD.

Industry associations are applauding the introduction of the Dietary Supplements Access Act. The bipartisan legislation would expand health savings accounts (HSA), health reimbursement arrangements (HRA), and flexible spending accounts (FSA) to cover dietary supplements. 

More than 65,000 registered attendees and 3,000 exhibiting companies gathered at the Anaheim Convention Center March 7-11 for Natural Products Expo West. As the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) has highlighted, all species of Rhodiola spp. have been added to the list of botanicals that the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) controls for international trade. The botanical is considered to be in danger of over harvesting, and therefore requires proper permits to trade.
