Vancouver, WA—Columbia River Natural Pet Foods is voluntarily expanding their current recall,according to the FDA.
The original recall,according to the FDA, covered 933 packages of Cow Pie fresh frozen meats for dogs and cats, produced in August 2017, with Lot# 81917. The packages were recalled because they had the potential to be contaminated withListeria monocytogenes.
The FDA’s press release says that the additional products include 261 packages of Cow Pie Lot# 72618 and 82 packages of Chicken & Vegetables Lot# 111518 fresh frozen meats for dogs and cats, produced in July 2018 and November 2018.
These products, according to the FDA, may be contaminated withSalmonellaandListeria monocytogenes. These bacteria can affect the animals eating the products and can pose a risk to the humans who handle it, particularly if they don’t thoroughly wash their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.
The FDA says that people infected with these bacteria should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, or fever. Rarely, they can result in more serious ailments, including arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, or arterial infections. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.
Pets withSalmonellaorListeria monocytogenesinfections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will only have decreased appetite, fever, or abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers, and can infect other animals or humans.
Cow Pie and Chicken & Vegetables were both distributed in Alaska, Oregon, and Washington through retail stores and direct delivery. The lot numbers can be found on orange stickers on both products.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
