Outdoor Retailer Update: 8 Trends to Watch

March 19, 2021
Nancy Trent
This year, the iconic Outdoor Retailer show was held virtually for the second time from, January 20-23, 2021. After living through this pandemic for almost a year, these brands made it their mission to give us some ideas that can be implemented into our new “normal.” We came across so many brands that are taking that extra step to stand out and shine within their categories. So many brands are working to make outdoor activities even more fun, functional, comfortable, and safe!

Outdoor Retailer is a chance to showcase your brand and demonstrate the way you innovate in new environments, and it might be said that one of the very few bright sides of this pandemic is that inspired exciting and useful new products. Here are some of the trends we found during our time meeting these outdoor brands:
Sustainable Base Layers Empowering Strong Women
Kari Traa is a sustainable, base layer brand by women for women. Bringing warm clothing to women everywhere, former U.S. Olympian, Kari Traa is setting out to empower  customers through hero products made out of recycled polyester and merino wool line. It will soon be easy to live your life outdoors both sustainably and comfortably!
Hemp Clothing Re-Imagined
Hemp Black is an anti-odor, anti-microbial hemp clothing brand, turning hemp on its head. Infusing hemp into polyester and nylon, Hemp Black has created a line of activewear for all genders. Hit your workouts even harder with anti-itch, anti-odor hemp clothing!
The Lesser-Known But Higher Quality Wool
Arms of Andes is producing highly sustainable, royal alpaca wool products that can keep any hiker warm and cozy. With all their naturally dyed products coming directly from Peru, Arms of Andes is promoting a single sourced line of outdoor and athletic wear. Make sure you’re getting the most out of all your outdoor experiences with clothes that feel good and do good.
Recycled Fabrics to Keep Your Head Warm
With about 350 styles to choose from, Bula is heading the winter headwear industry by moving toward creating all products with recycled yarn. Bula is utilizing a Cold Weather Program to use recycled fleece so that all customers, adults and children, can have the items they need to stay warm in the winter.
Shoes Made for More Than Just Walking
Hiking can be made easier with the right gear, and Asolo makes sure you have everything you need to keep yourself safe and comfortable on any outdoor adventure. Asolo uses vibrum megagrip, which has high friction for their boots, as well as offering laces and insoles for all those long-hike needs.
Headbands For Everyone
Junk Brands is designing headbands, neck gaiters, and apparel for cross fitters and outdoor enthusiasts alike. There are headbands for every activity, casual and thin to thick and warm. Junk Brands offers a variety of pattern for adults and children.

Not only is it important to make sure you’re ready for any condition with the right outerwear and apparel, but there also should be a way to stay hydrated and keep tidy when out and about. These brands are innovating the way we function outdoors with solutions to issues most outdoor enthusiasts come across:
Clean Water Anywhere
Guzzle H2O is a drinking water system that is a reliable way to provide your family or group with filtered and purified water during a boil-water advisory, survival situation, or just a weekend adventure. Guzzle H2O utilizes a lithium battery with a charging port for about an hour per charge. This filtration system will be your new best friend with UV that is helps take out anything that will make you sick.

Ski Storage Simplified

Button Ski Rack has been making ski racks for years, designed to give businesses and residences the room to hang their gear. Button Ski Rack is designed to satisfy all the complex solutions to simple problems for skiers, and it makes clean-up easy.
While the Outdoor Industry Association continues to monitor the ongoing pandemic, they are hopeful we will be back in person for the Summer Outdoor Retailer show that will be held August 11-12, 2021 in Denver, CO. We are looking forward to meeting more brands and their products in person.
