Washington, NJ—Herbalist & Alchemist (H&A) is celebrating its 40th anniversary, and the future looks bright. The company will expand to a larger facility to meet growing demand, according to a press release. The new facility is planned to be operational by the end of the year.

A look back at the early days

President and founder David Winston, RH (AHG), named the company based on the concept of combining extracts to create herbal remedies. The manufacturer and distributor of herbal supplements got its start when Winston sold extra extracts he had in supply to practitioners outside of his own practice. “I began making extracts for my practice because I couldn’t find the quality I wanted in the marketplace,” Winston explained. “As demand grew, it became clear H&A needed a businessperson to run it while I focused on educating, writing, and formulating. I was fortunate to find Beth Lambert, who became my partner and CEO in 1995."

Beth Lambert, the businessperson behind the brand, shared, "It’s been such an amazing journey to work with David and this fantastic staff, many of whom have been with us for many years. Having the confidence of customers and knowing we make a difference in people’s lives and the environment gives me pride in what we do every day.”

Driving future success

The success of the brand is attributed in part to its unique solid extracts and the expertise needed to create the formulations. The brand's Hawthorn Solid Extract was recently awarded Botanical Product of the Year by NutraIngredients-USA.

Winston has published literature on herbal topics, including his book, Adaptogens: Herbs for Strength, Stamina and Stress Relief.
