Basel, Switzerland—Lonza announced in a press release that Marc Funk, CEO, is leaving the company for personal reasons.

Albert Baehny, Chairman of the Board of Directors, will be interim CEO until a permanent successor is found. Funk will stay until January 2020 to ensure a smooth handover.

Lonza also announced that Christoph Maeder has been appointed Lead Independent Director by the Board.

Maeder said in the release: “Albert has agreed to lead the Company on a temporary basis until a successor is in place, for which a search has commenced. The Board respects Marc’s decision and would like to thank him for his service to Lonza and wish him well for his future endeavors.”

Baehny added: “I am committed to Lonza, its employees and all its stakeholders and I will ensure that I work in their best interests in the months ahead. The Company has an exciting future in dynamic markets and I am keep to ensure that we maintain our momentum and capture all the opportunities available to us.
