Auburn, WA—The nonprofit Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) announced that it will be showcasing its Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO), GIG’s independent, third-party certification program for gluten-free products, at Natural Products Expo East. Representatives from GIG and GFCO will be at booth 2503 to discuss the GFCO program, its new certification mark, benefits of certification and the certification process.
As WholeFoods previously reported, increased demand for label transparency globally led GFCO to introduce a new mark for packaging in March of 2020. The new mark is designed to protect the value of the organization's certification internationally. It is also more easily identifiable to the many consumers seeking gluten-free products; GIG notes that recent research showed 75% of U.S. adult shoppers who completely avoid or limit gluten want to see GFCO logos on the packaging of products they purchase.
“We are looking forward to meeting with our food manufacturer partners and those interested in becoming GFCO certified to discuss the value transparent labeling provides for the gluten-free community,” said Paul Vachris, GFCO Program Manager, in a press release. “We are also excited to share our plans for continuing to expand on our mission to represent and meet the needs of the gluten-free community with the several new initiatives in the works to advocate for and support the gluten-free community.”
