East Windsor, NJ—Dr. Muhammed Majeed, Founder and Chairman, Sami-Sabinsa Group, has recently published the fourth book on derivatives ofBoswellia serrata and, in recognition of his work in the nutraceuticals and cosmeceuticals industry, has been recognized by The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM).

Boswellin—Anti-Inflammatory Adaptogen from Naturewas written by senior scientists of Sami-Sabinsa Group and edited by Dr. Majeed and Dr. N. Kalyanam, according to a press release. The book gives an overview of the “quintessential” science on Boswellic acids, and dives into the polysaccharide component of Boswellia gum.

TheBoswellia serrata tree grows in India. The gum resin exudate of the tree has been used in Ayurvedic medicine to manage rheumatism, respiratory diseases, and liver disorders, the press release says. The primary use in contemporary medicine is as an anti-arthritic and anti-inflammatory agent.

“With many botanicals, there is so much more to study than the primarily-known active constituents,” said Dr. Majeed. “In studying Boswellia, we’ve made some intriguing discoveries about the immunomodulatory polysaccharides of Boswellia gum, and are eager to share those more widely.”

A second press release states that Dr. Majeed has been honored with a lifetime achievement award by ASOOCHAM, presented as part of Ayush Mela, one of India’s largest exhibition and conference events.

ASSOCHAM received more than 150 nominations across 34 categories of awards, out of which 75 nominations were shortlisted across different categories, the press release says. The winners were selected by a jury of professionals affiliated with the AYUSH fields—Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy.
