Dublin, OH—The Mid-American Health Organization (MAHO), a 15-state regional trade association committed to supporting the independent retail stores within the natural products industry, announced its separation from the Natural Products Association (NPA).

MAHO’s new Bylaws, which were accepted by its Membership at its Annual Business Meeting on July 22, 2018, document that organizational decisions be determined by MAHO’s governing Board of Directors, without benefit or consequence of any outside organization or national office. The MAHO Board of Directors informed the NPA of their desire to maintain a legislative/advocacy relationship where it benefits MAHO’s independent retail membership philosophy.

In a letter to Daniel Fabricant, Ph.D., dated November 15, 2018, MAHO President Michael Anderson noted that the MAHO Board of Directors respectfully acknowledges the strong working relationship between MAHO and NPA over the years, and that MAHO would look to the future and envision success for the benefit of both MAHO and the NPA.

MAHO has been incorporated as the Mid-American Health Organization since 1975, MAHO Executive Director Marcy Kraft toldWholeFoods, so while its relationship with NPA has dissolved, the organization itself remains the same. She added that MAHO has a long history of supporting independent retailers and the manufacturers and suppliers who support those retailers.

Looking to the future, MAHO will host its annual “Summer Splash” Convention & MAHO Expo on July 19-21, 2019. The event will be held at the Hilton Columbus at Easton in Columbus, Ohio, and Kraft noted that all are welcome to attend. More information is available atwww.maho4health.org.
