Emeryville, CA- Clif Bar & Co., makers of organic foods, has been awarded a Climate Leadership Award for Supply Chain Leadership by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA advises that the award “recognizes organizations that not only have their own comprehensive greenhouse gas inventories and aggressive emissions reduction goals, but also exemplify extraordinary leadership in their internal response to climate change, and engagement of their peers, partners, and supply chain.”

 

Clif Bar sources 100 percent green power for their headquarters and for its other facilities including those who provide baking, ingredients, logistics and packaging services. The program is know as “50/50 by 2020” and through it Clif Bar requests that its supply chain partners utilize green power as a source of 50 percent or more for any electricity used in the production of Clif Bars. Launched in 2015, the program had 12 supplier facilities verify that green power purchases of 50 percent or 100 percent as of September of 2016, which is 24 percent of the 2020 goal that Clif Bar has set for itself. As a result, nine million kWh of green power have been purchased yearly. By 2017, it is anticipated that the program impact will be doubled, resulting in an achievement of the 50 percent goal with 20 additional suppliers being evaluated.

In Emeryville, onsite solar array is responsible for generating 80 percent of the sites electricity.
