Abby Phon, Holistic Health & Wellness Coach based in California, first found Erewhon Market in April 2016 and loved the convenience—previously she planned weekends around a trip to the farmer’s market. The selection is also a plus. “100% of their fresh produce is organic, so I feel good about buying my family fruits and veggies, especially ones off the Environmental Working Group's ‘Dirty Dozen’ list,” says Phon. “They even have organic corn, which I had the hardest time finding in Los Angeles!”
The unique, local offerings are another plus “Erewhon carries my friend Yvonne's vegan cheese, which I find totally amazing,” says Phon. “Because it's made fresh and in small batches, it doesn't have a very long shelf life—and honestly, it shouldn't. Real food spoils! But I'm really impressed the store is able to stock and carry such a small-production item. I think it really speaks volumes about how invested they are in the supporting local, healthy options. Her goatless cheese happens to be my very favorite and they can't keep it on the shelves longer than a few hours! They also have Harry's Berries organic strawberries. These are the best strawberries I've ever had in my life. They are crazy sweet and flavorful, and meet my two top criteria for strawberries: organic and red all the way through!”

Phon also loves Erewhon’s environmental initiatives and philanthropy. “Erewhon Market is happy to provide event support and donations to certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations within our local store communities that align with our purpose, to protect and restore the environment,” she explains. “Erewhon’s considers requests from the following organizations: environmental organizations, organic farming and sustainable agriculture, child education and mindfulness and meditation.”
Regardless of where you live, Phon says that when you eat what’s local to your area, organic and in season you will see health benefits, spend less money in travel, support your community, lessen your environmental footprint, and taste the difference.
