Vancouver, WA—OptiMSM improves hair and nail health, according to a double-blind clinical study published in the November issue ofNatural Medicine Journal.

Researchers evaluated the hair and nail condition of 63 subjects over four months through expert grading and self-assessment, according to a press release on the topic. The subjects were divided into two groups, each taking different doses of OptiMSM, Bergstrom Nutrition’s branded methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) ingredient. Both groups showed improvement, suggesting that OptiMSM can help the appearance and condition of hair and nails.

The release notes that it is hypothesized that MSM may provide sulfur to keratin, which could help strengthen keratin molecule bonds in hair and nails.

Rodney Benjamin, Director of R&D for Bergstrom, said in the release: “Previous data has shown that the sulfur from orally consumed MSM is incorporated into hair, skin, and nails. The difference is that this study confirms OptiMSM’s efficacy for specifically hair and nails. The results demonstrated that both dosages of OptiMSM delivered significant improvement in the appearance and condition of both hair and nails with the higher dosage appearing to deliver faster and stronger benefits.”

Tim Hammond, VP of Sales & Marketing for Bergstrom, added: “This new study provides more evidence that MSM is a safe, natural way to improve the condition and appearance of hair and nails. Our continued investment in research provides consumers with valuable information supported by science and the multiple benefits of OptiMSM in supporting their overall health.”
