A new published study indicates that a lower dose of Superba krill oil from Aker BioMarine than fish oil is needed to boost individuals’ blood serum levels of EPA/DHA. It also helped improve their HDL-cholesterol/triglyceride ratio. The DHA/EPA dose from krill was 63% of that provided in the fish oil.

Short Hills, NK-based OmniActive Health Technologies announced that its Lutemax 2020 ingredient was self-affirmed GRAS for use in a range of food and beverage applications.

Embria of Ankeny, IA recently released the results of a 12-person study on its EpiCor immune-support ingredient. The branded ingredient was applied topically to one arm to gauge its anti-histamine effects; a placebo solution was applied to the other arm. After a histamine scratch test, the EpiCor resulted in less skin irritation and inflammation than the placebo (measured by blood perfusion using a noninvasive laser Doppler). Irritation also returned to normal more quickly than with the placebo.
