North Lauderdale, FL— On March 19, 2026 the founder of Tunie's Nutrition (formerly Tunie's Super Save Nutrition), Al Foreman, passed away. The recipient of the 2006 WholeFoods Magazine Retailer of the Year award was known throughout the industry for his professional diligence and dedicated leadership. "To many, he was formidable—disciplined, exacting, and unwavering in his standards," read a LinkedIn post from Foreman's daughter, Dominique Ostrander, Territory Manager at Jarrow Formulas. "But to those who truly knew him, especially the dedicated sales professionals who stood alongside him, he was someone you could count on. Tough, yes—but always fair. And if you were willing to work, he would meet you there every time."
Early career
Foreman opened Tunie's Nutrition in 1993. What began as a small local operation quickly grew into a viable business, leading to its relocation to a much larger, 15,000 square foot location in 2005. In addition to a wide selection of products, offering customers up to 30,000 different grocery products, the retail space made its name amongst the community because of its nutritional education services. Tunie's offered free nutritional counseling from a certified nutritionist on site, interested customers had access to a private office within the store where they could ask questions and discuss their issues privately.
A passionate businessman, Foreman was involved with the day-to-day operations of Tunie's. "He was, at his core, a retail genius," wrote Ostrander. "His approach to business was so distinctive that Princeton Business School studied his formula for success. He built and scaled chains of drug stores that became household names, but his greatest legacy was Tunies Nutrition Center."
An avid educator, Foreman was also the host of a radio show that featured industry guests and discussed natural products and common health issues. Willing to share information was one of his well known characteristics, according to WholeFoods Magazine Publisher and Chief Business Officer Heather Wainer, who remembers Foreman as a a kindhearted individual. "Seeing Al was always a bright spot. There was always a smile on his face because he genuinely loved what he did. I heard rumors of his toughness, but never experienced anything but the sweetest man who was always willing to share information with anyone. We were so proud to name him Retailer of the Year in 2006. It was well deserved for such an industry pioneer."
Paying respect
Funeral services and shiva were held on March 20, 2026. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to MyChaiCenter.com/Donate where Foreman was a founding member.
