Bengaluru, India—The Dr. Majeed Foundation, a non-profit institution established by Dr. Muhammed Majeed, Founder and Chairman of Sami-Sabinsa Group, shared news of efforts to support people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in India. The foundation has distributed 3,600 kits containing essential food items, protective equipment, hand sanitizers, and health supplements, according to a press release. Teams from Sabinsa’s parent company, Sami Labs, helped distribute items to poor, aged, and vulnerable people living near the company’s facility in Hyderabad, India.

In addition, according to the release, financial contributions include U.S. $1.32 million to the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES Fund), and over $250,000 to the Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority. The PM CARES Fund focuses on combating, containment, and relief efforts against the COVID-19 outbreak and similar situations in the future. The release notes that money raised by the fund has supplied 50,000 ventilators, invested in vaccine development, and funded the care of migrant laborers.

“We have always believed in supporting the less fortunate while giving back to society and the nation,” Dr. Majeed said in the release. “Today, as the COVID-19 pandemic poses an unprecedented challenge for the country, supporting efforts such as the PM CARES Fund is a step towards helping combat the virus.”
