Cincinnati, OH—The World Sleep Society is issuing a global call to action about the importance of healthy sleep on World Sleep Day, Friday, March 19. At the same time, the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) is promoting the benefits of healthy sleep and its relationship to overall health through Sleep Awareness Week, March 14-March 20.

The slogan for the 14thannual World Sleep Day is “Regular Sleep, Healthy Future,” according to the World Sleep Society. A regular sleep schedule is associated with better sleep quality in adults, the Society says on its website, and regular sleepers have better mood, psychomotor performance, and academic achievement.

The World Sleep Society recommends 10 steps, including avoidance of alcohol, caffeine, and heavy foods before bed; exercising regularly, but not right before bed; and blocking out all distracting noise and light as much as possible. All 10 steps and more information can be found

Sleep Awareness Week is NSF’s national public education campaign that celebrates sleep health, a campaign that commences with the beginning of Daylight Savings Time. The week was first launched in 1998. NSF offers Brand Guidelineson its site,for those looking to promote the event.
