Washington, D.C.—The CDC is advising consumers, restaurants, and retailers not to eat, serve, or sell any romaine lettuce, as it investigates an outbreak ofE. coli, according to apress release.

The CDC, public health officials in several states and Canada, and the FDA are investigating the outbreak. 32 illnesses have been reported in 11 states, including 13 people who have been hospitalized. One of the 32 developed hemolytic uremic syndrome, a type of kidney failure. No deaths have been reported.

Illness reports range from October 8thto October 31st.

The CDC advised consumers who have any type of romaine lettuce in their home to throw it out, even if some was eaten and no one got sick. This includes all types of lettuce, such as whole heads, hearts, bags or boxes of precut lettuce, and salad mixes.

Symptoms include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting. Anyone suffering from those symptoms should talk to their doctor.
