A branded cranberry extract (PACran from Decas Botanical Synergies) was showed in a clinical trial to help prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women. Results from the study were presented at the most recent PhytoPharm conference in Nuremberg.

For six months, A. Vidlar from the University Hospital in Olomouc, Czech Republic gave 500 mg of the extract to 79 women with recurring UTIs; 86 other women received a placebo. Over the course of the study, 22 infections occurred in the placebo group, but only half that amount affected the cranberry extract group. The recurrence rates were 26% for the placebo group and 14% for the cranberry group.
