SALT LAKE CITY, UT—TheNatural Algae Astaxanthin Association(NAXA) recentlyannounced the expansionof its astaxanthin verification program to include retail products, and has released some initial results from its testing.

Using HPLC at an independent testing lab, 12 products were tested to see whether the source of astaxanthin is natural and derived from Haematococcus pluvialis, per label claims. Ten were correctly labeled, but the group says "Two of the products tested were not confirmed by HPLC to be astaxanthin derived from Haematococcus pluvialis.

Said NAXA President Scott Steinford, “NAXA is pleased to confirm the majority of the market is representing itself accurately, and encourages consumers to demand accurate labeling.”
