Forsyth, MO-based National Enzyme Company (NEC) employees are participating in a unique fundraising/”get fit” effort. Over 26 weeks, staff will participate in a walkathon, try to increase their physical activity and eat healthier. Their sponsors will donate money to NEC’s Gift of Hope Charity for miles walked, weight lost and body fat percentage reduced. The company will offer education on healthy weight loss and offer motivating activities.

Fuji Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., based in Burlington, NJ received a no-objection letter from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration regarding the GRAS status of its AstaREAL astaxanthin.

Piscataway, NJ-based Sabinsa Corporation received a new dietary ingredient notification from the FDA for its SelenoForce (a selenium-enriched garlic product).

Robinson Pharma Inc. of Santa Ana, CA joined the Council for Responsible Nutrition as a full voting member. It also finished a million-dollar expansion and rebuilding of its analytical laboratories. The company will now add several quality and analytical lab positions.

Pasadena, TX-based Kaneka Nutrients L.P. announced that it will increase the manufacturing capacity for its Kaneka QH ubiquinol “to keep up with demand, which has increased well beyond earlier projections.”

The Food Processing Center at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln is holding a National Small Food Manufacturer Conference on May 20–21. Stieb Pomegranate Products of Madera, CA changed its name to Stiebs to better reflect its “growing list of ingredients,” according to the firm.

Lonza, with U.S. headquarters in Allendale, NJ, showed off the newest nutritional bars containing its branded L-carnitine health ingredient (Carnipure)  at the Healthy and Nutritional Bars Conference, held in Cologne, Germany in February. According to Lonza, “the bars provide a quick snack formulated with a proven energy production ingredient.”
