Irvine, CA-based Algae Life Sciences, Inc. (a subsidiary of BGG), announced it received a letter of non-objection from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its new dietary ingredients filing for AstaZine Natural Astaxanthin. The ingredient is available as organic certified 5% powder; 5%, 10% and 20% oleoresin; 2% water-soluble powder; 2.0% and 2.5% microencapsulated beadlets.

A new poster was presented by Morristown, NJ-based OmniActive Health Technologies Inc. at Experimental Biology suggesting that Capsimax Capsicum Extract may offer satiety and support weight management without increasing heart rate or blood pressure. A separate poster at the same conference showed data suggesting Omnilean Salacia extract supports a healthy glucose and insulin response after meals.

Solazyme of San Francisco, CA, is changing its name to TerraVia “to reflect a new focus on food, nutrition and specialty ingredients.”

Naturex of Avignon, France, will partner with Mazza Innovation Ltd. of Delta, BC, Canada, to use its pressurized low-polarity water technology to extract phytochemicals from cranberries.
