Woodland, CA-based Western Foods is now SQF Level 2 Certified.

National Enzyme Company of Forsyth, MO, expanded its facility to create additional office space for its quality control, information technology and marketing groups. The new 3,200-ft2 building replaces offices that were damaged in a fire in 2015.

Ethical Naturals Inc. of San Anselmo, CA, announced its vegetable-source glucosamine (GreenGrown) was certified non-GMO by Eurofins Scientific and certified kosher by Star-K.

ExcelVite of Edison, NJ, announced its in-house laboratory was awarded the 2015 Laboratory Excellence Award bythe Institut Kimia Malaysia/Malaysian Institute of Chemistry. Says the company, “This award further demonstrates the commitment of ExcelVite to inculcate best laboratory practices in its laboratory personnel via ExcelVite’s high-end, state-of-the-art equipment dedicated to the accurate analysis of ExcelVite’s products.”

According to new data published in the International Journal of General Medicine, an oral probiotic called Streptococcus salivarius K12 (Blis K12 from Stratum Nutrition, St. Charles, MO) may improve respiratory immune health in children. After 22 children diagnosed with ear infections were given the probiotic for three months, it was found “strain K12 may have a role in reducing the occurrence and/or severity of [secretory otitis media] in children.”
