Albion Laboratories, Inc., of Clearfield, UT, acquired hundreds of intellectual property assets from the Procter & Gamble Company and P&G’s NutriStar business.

Aker BioMarine Antarctic, with worldwide headquarters in Oslo, Norway, achieved  ISO 9001:2008 Certification for its krill harvesting vessel, the Saga Sea. In other news, Aker scientists developed the basis for a planned clinical study with Superba Krill oil and powder compositions for joint health, which will start later this year. The company recorded a 35% increase in sales of Superba krill oil in the fourth quarter of 2011 (52 metric tons in 2010 to 70 metric tons in 2011).

Sabinsa of East Windsor, NJ received a patent for its TetraPure cosmeceutical ingredient.

The European Union plans to invest six million Euros to learn about several functional food ingredients’ health benefits (including the immune-support capabilities of Wellmune WGP, from Biothera of Eagan, MN). The studies will take place at various universities, research firms and private companies over the course of 4.5 years.

Fuji Health Science, Inc. received a letter of no-objection from FDA regarding the New Dietary Ingredient Notification at 12 mg per day for AstaREAL astaxanthin.

New York, NY-based Kyowa Hakko Bio Co. Ltd. now has the Kyowa Quality seal that manufacturers can use to indicate its ingredients are used in their products.

AssuriTEA Green from Kemin of Des Moines, IA now has GRAS status.

Corn Products International of Westchester, IL plans to change its name to Ingredion. States the company, “The name change is part of a global strategy that included the acquisition of National Starch in late 2010.”

Gurnee, IL-based Henry Broch & Company now has an office in Cochin, India to source ingredients throughout Southeast Asia.
