Kailua-Kona, HI—The September issue of Nutra Foods published a lengthy article about the various health benefits of spirulina microalgae.

The authors first compared the nutrient profile of spirulina versus other foods and noted that spirulina has 5100% more iron than spinach and 180% more calcium than whole milk. They went on to document numerous published studies showing that spirulina supports the immune system by enhancing infections resistance and activating T-/B-cells; has anti-viral and anti-cancer properties; and protects the heart by supporting healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

The article was coauthored by Bob Capelli and Gerald R. Cysewski of Cyanotech Corporation, based here.
