Natural Products Day

Washington, D.C.—Each spring, industry members visit lawmakers in Washington, D.C. to help ensure our laws continue to guarantee access to natural products. The Natural Products Association (NPA, npainfo.org), based in D.C., coordinates these visits by making appointments for association members with their Congressmen and women. This year, nearly 150 members representing 33 states plus the District of Columbia came to Capitol Hill for more than 140 meetings on Tuesday, March 23rd.

Expo West

According to show organizers, some 56,000 industry members attended this year’s Natural Products Expo West/SupplyExpo, held in Anaheim, CA. Overall, the mood was enthusiastic, though it was clear that the recent regulatory events were a chief concern of many companies. Nonetheless, Expo West offered many educational lessons and was the launch pad for several new products and company initiatives.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced the long-awaited details of the final rule regarding access to pasture for organic livestock. This rule amends the National Organic Program (NOP) regulations to clarify the use of pasture in raising organic ruminants. The final rule provides consumers with certainty that organic livestock production is a pasture-based system in which animals are actively grazing pasture during the grazing season.
