Paramus, NJ-based Smart Balance, Inc. acquired ownership of Udi’s Healthy Foods, LLC, Denver, CO for $125 million worth of shares. Udi’s, whose 2011 sales amounted to $60.9 million, will expand Smart Balance’s portfolio of gluten-free offerings after a similar acquisition of Glutino Food Group last year.

Bob’s Red Mill, Milwaukie, OR, announces the second annual Spar for the Spurtle Oatmeal Recipe Contest. Participants can submit videos of recipes using the company’s Steel Cut Oats. The winner receives an all-expenses-paid trip to Scotland to represent team Bob’s Red Mill in the 19th Annual Golden Spurtle World Porridge Making Championship.

Beginning in 2015, each new product from Kashi Company, La Jolla, CA foods will contain at least 70% organic ingredients and be Non-GMO Project Verified.
