Washington, D.C.—Jarrow L. Rogovin, founder and president of Jarrow Formulas, Inc., had some strong words for the Natural Products Association (NPA) Board of Directors regarding the recent hiring of Daniel Fabricant, Ph.D., as its new executive director and CEO.

During his three years as the director of dietary supplement programs at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Rogovin believes Fabricant was unnecessarily hard on the supplements industry in public statements and media interviews. Rogovin feels NPA’s choice for its next executive director and CEO sends a statement that the group is expressing some agreement with these statements.

“His remarks repeatedly condemned the industry as a whole, were often threatening, and usually lacked accurate context and were not backed by specific facts,” Rogovin told NPA’s board of directors in a letter. “In a short period of time he claimed that 50% of the industry was, quote, out of compliance, unquote, and then shortly later 70%. He never defined out of compliance, the seriousness of it or the basis for it.”

Jarrow Formulas has not been an NPA member since 2009.
