Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia—In mid-May, the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) organized a two-day conference, held here, all about red palm oil-derived tocotrienols and carotenoids. 

Hartford, CT—With a 35–1 vote, the Connecticut Senate reportedly passed a bill that would require foods containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs) to be labeled. It became the first state Senate to do so, but the bill’s prospects in the Connecticut House of Representatives remained unclear. The bill states that the labeling requirement would not take effect in Connecticut until July 1, 2016, unless three other nearby states passed similar legislation. In that case, it would take effect July 1, 2015.

Okayama, Japan—Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects 3–7% of school children, the American Psychiatric Association states. There could be a nutritional component to the condition, according to new data published in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics. A team headed by a Kurashiki City College researcher, based here, believes a soy-derived phosphatidylserine (PS) may help improve ADHD symptoms in kids.
