“Although individual decisions may seem small in the face of global threats and trends, when billions of people join together in a common purpose, we can make a tremendous difference.”
—UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon

World Environment Day is on June 5th, 2015.  Sponsored by the United Nations, it is a vehicle to promote positive environmental awareness and change. Celebrated in more than 100 countries, it is an important day to do something positive to benefit the environment. Today, individual actions are transformed into global collective benefit for planetary change.

Based on the understanding that the well-being of humanity, the environment, and the economy ultimately depend upon responsible management of the earth's natural resources, this year's campaign acknowledges that the world's inhabitants are consuming more natural resources than the earth can sustainably provide. For this reason, “consuming with care” is encouraged with the hope that a greater number of the world’s population will begin to live with low or zero waste and respect the boundaries of our current resources to ensure a better future.

Citizens and businesses around the world will be making pledges in favor of the Sustainable Development Goals focusing on things that we normally waste – water, food, energy, and other natural resources. Pledges range from favoring slow food to biking or hiking to work to reduce carbon emissions.

Your pledge can be as simple as choosing certified organic food and products or turning the lights off earlier every night. Organizers say that world environment day will help to create a better world!
